Privacy Statement

Last updated: 2 September 2026

This is the privacy statement of the Orthodox Logos Foundation (Stichting Orthodox Logos), established at Zandheuvel 52 B, 4901 HW Oosterhout, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) under number 18088646 (hereinafter: “we”). We publish Orthodox books and sell them through www.orthodoxlogos.com. When you order a book, create an account, write to us or subscribe to the newsletter, we process personal data. Below you will find which data, for what purpose, for how long, with whom we share it and what rights you have. In doing so we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, the GDPR (AVG).

Which data we process

When you place an order. Your name, billing and delivery address, e-mail address, telephone number, the titles ordered and the order amount. Your payment is handled by our payment service provider Mollie; we see which payment method you chose and whether the payment succeeded, but not bank account or card numbers.

When you have an account. The same data as for an order, plus your password (stored in encrypted form) and your order history.

When you contact us. What you send us – by e-mail, through the contact form or by telephone – and the data that go with it, such as your name and e-mail address.

For the newsletter. Your e-mail address and, if you provide it, your name. We send the newsletter only after you have subscribed.

When you visit the website. Technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages you view, by means of cookies and similar technologies. Exactly which these are is set out in our cookie statement.

We do not ask for date of birth, education, occupation or any other data that we do not need for a book order. It may be possible to infer from your order that you are interested in the Orthodox Church; we do not record that interest separately and do not use it for anything.

Purposes and legal basis

  • Carrying out your order – delivering, invoicing, informing you of its status, and handling a return or complaint. Legal basis: performance of the purchase agreement.
  • Keeping our records – we are legally obliged to keep the data of orders and invoices. Legal basis: legal obligation.
  • Answering your questions – legal basis: our legitimate interest in being of service to you, or the agreement if the question concerns an order.
  • Sending the newsletter – legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw with a single click in every newsletter.
  • Securing and improving the website – legal basis: our legitimate interest in a website that works and is secure; for cookies that are not strictly necessary, your consent.

With whom we share data

We do not sell your data. We share them only with parties we need in order to carry out your order or to keep the website running:

  • Mollie B.V. (Amsterdam) processes your payment.
  • The delivery service receives your name, address and telephone number in order to deliver the parcel.
  • Partner publishers. Titles from partner publishers are dispatched by the publisher itself. If you order such a title, that publisher receives your name and delivery address – no more than is needed to send the book.
  • Our hosting provider and Cloudflare store the website and protect it against attacks; in doing so they process technical data such as your IP address.
  • MailPoet takes care of sending the newsletter.
  • Google receives visitor statistics through Google Analytics; see the cookie statement.
  • Our accountancy firm sees the data that are needed for the bookkeeping.

We have concluded data processing agreements with parties that process data on our behalf. We provide data to public authorities only if the law obliges us to do so.

How long we keep data

  • Order and invoice data: seven years after the year of the order, because the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst) requires it.
  • Your account: for as long as you keep it. You can have it deleted at any time; order data then remain stored only in our records.
  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe.
  • Correspondence: up to one year after our last contact, unless it belongs to an order.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to have the processing restricted, to object, and to receive your data in a commonly used file (data portability). Consent that you have given can be withdrawn at any time; this does not affect anything that was lawfully processed before then. Send your request to [email protected]. We reply within one month and may ask you to identify yourself, so that we do not give anyone else your data.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, please let us know. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Security

The website can be reached only through an encrypted connection (https). Passwords are stored in encrypted form, access to order data is limited to those who need it for their work, and we make secure back-ups regularly.

Changes

If we amend this statement, we will place the new version on this page with a new date at the top.
