A few words about
Orthodox Logos Publishing
In 2007 the Orthodox Logos Foundation, alongside its online bookshop, started a publishing house, with the aim of making the written heritage of the (Eastern) Orthodox Church accessible to a wide public in the West, and in particular in the Dutch-speaking world.
Orthodox Logos Publishing seeks to make Eastern Orthodoxy better known in the West, and does so “from within”, by publishing and republishing works from the libraries of Orthodoxy translated into Dutch (and into other languages as well), and by republishing and publishing original and new, contemporary works in Greek, Russian, Romanian… Many people in the West hardly know, or know only in passing, what is meant by “Orthodoxy” (also called Eastern Orthodox Christianity) and the Churches connected with it, their way of thinking and of life, their liturgical celebrations, their reading of Scripture and their study of the Fathers, and so on.
Orthodox Logos Publishing strives to reach a new public interested in this tradition – young and old, well read and little read, schooled and unschooled.
The books published by Orthodox Logos Publishing are meant for all who are seriously seeking the experience and knowledge of the spirit, its practice and its theology, that is, the deeper roots of Christianity. It is this perspective of Orthodoxy – which, as is well known, arose and flourished in the many churches and monasteries of the East (Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Arabia), and later spread to the Byzantine Empire, ancient Russia, Bulgaria and the other Slavic lands, and to Georgia, Romania and Albania, for example – that, surprisingly, still makes a clearly defined contribution in our own time, with a voice entirely its own, in Western Europe and America, through its mystical liturgical life and its ascetic and monastic tradition.
The Orthodox approach to Christianity has found expression in an unimaginably vast and rich book culture, has been handed down to posterity and preserved to this day, and is continually put into words and committed to books anew. For that reason special attention is also given to works that arise from present-day spiritual practice.
