Orthodox Christianity

What is Orthodoxy?

Orthodox means ‘right believing’ and ‘right glorifying’. The Orthodox Church is the Church of the Christian East, which keeps the faith of the apostles and of the seven Ecumenical Councils unchanged: in the Liturgy, in the icons, in prayer and fasting, in the lives of the saints. It is at home in the Netherlands and Belgium too, in dozens of parishes.

Orthodox Logos hands on that tradition in English, Dutch and Russian: the Church Fathers and the saints, prayer and the spiritual life, catechesis and stories. For those who are Orthodox, and for those who want to know what it is.

Spiritual Life and Prayer

Adam, where are you?

A film by Aleksandr Zaporoshchenko
Produced by Aleksandr Plyska

This film immerses the viewer in the life of one of the monasteries of the Holy Mountain of Athos. The secluded monastic life, full of real characters and everyday saints, comes to the screen from under the cover of our daily concerns.

What emerges is a fascinating account of an entirely unparalleled way of life within a flourishing monastic community in the middle of the twenty-first century.

The Beatitudes

A Pathway to Theosis

In the opening words of the Sermon on the Mount, Christ names all that leads to blessedness. Drawing on the Scriptures and the Church Fathers, this book reads the Beatitudes as the way to theosis, and walks it step by step.

James Kenneth Hamrick

Orthodox Preaching as the Oral Icon of Christ

An age wary of claims to truth still listens to images and stories. Father James Hamrick shows how Orthodox preaching, faithful to the apostolic and patristic tradition and bound to the sacraments, sets Christ before the hearer as an icon in words.

Pilgrimages to Greece and Mount Athos

The holy apostles who first set foot on Greek soil had seen Jesus Christ in the flesh, and they told all the people of this remarkable land about Him. Through their words the Greeks came to believe in the Lord, and that faith was so strong that not even the Ottoman yoke could shake it.

That is why our partner, the pilgrimage organiser with whom the Orthodox Logos Foundation works, offers journeys to a land where Orthodoxy is still held to be the foundation of how one sees the world. Every feast of the Church is a national holiday in Greece, and everyone who counts himself a true believer hopes to honour this land with a visit at least once in his life.
